The Hingham Land Conservation Trust (HLCT), founded in 1972, works to acquire, preserve and maintain exceptional landscapes in Hingham. The land trust also educates the public about the value of Hingham's conservation land and advocates for local land preservation efforts. In 1996, the land trust joined with the Cohasset Land Conservation Trust, the Trustees of Reservations and the towns of Hingham and Cohasset to preserve 50 acres at the top of Turkey Hill. HLCT owns three major properties in Hingham: Jacobs Meadow (on Main Street behind Wilder Hall), Eel River Woods (on Cushing Street) and Whortleberry Hollow (off Cushing Street close of Whiting St.). HLCT sponsors guided walks on conservation lands in Hingham and adjacent towns and publishes a yearly newsletter about local conservation efforts. Most recently HLCT updated and republished a map of conserved open space in the Town of Hingham. |
