View of Hingham Bay from Webb Memorial State Park, the only mainland property in the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.
We are pleased to announce our Spring Walk on May 3, at 10 a.m. at Webb Memorial State Park in Weymouth. Led by Andrew Hultin, Weymouth Conservation Administrator, we will explore the three glacial drumlins and the marsh that form this peninsula in the Hingham Bay. Andrew will discuss Webb Park’s diverse habitats, flora and fauna, and point out some invasive species. Coinciding with the early end of the songbird migration, we will keep an eye and ear out for some of the first warblers.
As our nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the beginning of the Revolutionary War, we will also be joined by Commander Perkins from the Hingham Militia. In full uniform, Cmdr. Perkins will share the history of the Battle of Grape Island, the only hyper-local battle of the Revolutionary War, as we look across the water to its site. Huzzah!
The walk is just over a mile long and includes uneven terrain; please plan accordingly and dress for the weather. We will gather around the kiosk in the front of the parking lot to begin, and hope that you can join us.
