The Hingham Land Conservation Trust is pleased to announce that this year’s Goodrich Environmental Research Grant has been awarded to the Town of Hingham Conservation Department, in collaboration with The Trustees of Reservations, in the amount of $6,000. The funds will support the summer employment of Laura Hancock, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who will be on the faculty of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams this fall. Ms. Hancock will develop a comprehensive pollinator action plan for the community. Additionally, she will conduct fieldwork on various Trustees properties to identify and monitor current pollinator populations, assess habitat conditions, and to produce educational and outreach materials in support of future pollinator gardens.
Hingham Land Conservation Trust established the Goodrich Environmental Research Grant program as part of its 50th Anniversary celebration in 2022. Its purpose is to support projects that advance the conservation of open space in Hingham and neighboring South Shore communities, or those which improve access to, or encourage residents to enjoy, our parklands and conservation areas. Past recipients include Bare Cove Park, Town of Hingham; Friends of Holly Hill Farms; Friends of Wompatuck State Park; Wild Cohasset; and the Cohasset Center for Student Coastal Research.
